What to Do and What to See in Riga

The city of Riga is considered the pearl of the Baltic. This title is well deserved, as the capital of Latvia is a very fascinating place, very rich in culture. Considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Riga differs from the other capitals of the world for its unique architecture, with buildings with Art Nouveau or wood facades, in the neoclassical style.

Crossing the River Daugava, which makes even more magical the atmosphere of the city, the historic center of Riga is located on its right bank. From here you must visit the numerous medieval monuments of the city, rising to around St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, built in the thirteenth century. Do not miss the Cathedral of Riga, dedicated to Santa Maria, and also built in the thirteenth century in various styles, ranging from Baroque to Gothic.

Main attractions are the so-called “Three Brothers”, three ancient stone houses, perfectly preserved. To be mentioned is also the Riga Castle, built in the fourteenth century, the seat of the President of the Republic of Latvia and of the Museum of Foreign Art and of the History Museum of Latvia.

Museums are an important part of the city of Riga and the Museum of Photography, the War Museum and the Museum of Applied Arts deserve special attention among them.

Very well developed is also the entertainment industry, with many bars, discos and pubs that can entertain tourists. There are many convenient places to shop and where to find souvenirs, many cheap restaurants and a remarkable number of parks and gardens where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air of this enchanted place.
