If you’ve never tried Dutch food before, I’d recommend sampling one of the many different types of local cheese – there’s much more to be had here than Edam and Gouda.
They also do a mean line in sausages, and I really liked the croquettes I had on my last trip. Vegetarians beware: these aren’t potato croquettes but meat-filled goodies, usually eaten as a snack in a bun or with chips.
And if you’re a fish fan, don’t leave without trying the herring. As in Scotland and parts of Scandinavia, herring is a very traditional fish in the Netherlands, and is often eaten as a sandwich or with onions and pickles.Categories: Guides
