Has Sorrento always been your dream vacation getaway? What better time than Easter to make it all come true!?
A time of year where you can enjoy a beautiful summery yet spring climate, and sunbathe just like in June. Take part in the various, local Easter celebrations, which characterize the Easter festivities in Sorrento.
Easter in Sorrento is one of the warmest year. The whole town is mobilized to the processions, the pleasant spring weather is stable now and the days they spend pleasant. Here are some useful tips that can make you better appreciate the city.
Once in the city from the air is crisp and magnetic pervaded this place. After a trip usually is very hot, so I suggest you make a jump to the popular ice cream parlor “Spring”, a short walk from Piazza Tasso along the Corso Italy. The course is the shopping street and leading off, you’ll end up in front of boutiques of all kinds.
Between a shop and another of course Italy is also the beautiful “Villa Fiorentino”, which hosts numerous exhibitions and cultural events. By passing it is worth stopping to see if the current event can whet their appetite for art and culture.
Between Italian Corso and Piazza Tasso is advisable to take one of the many narrow streets and delve into them. Here you will find typical restaurants, but especially so many artisan shops, where to find fascinating and valuable work.
The Easter period is characterized by good food, my advice is to walk for about ten minutes, get up to the village of Marina Grande and here rely on the many local restaurants resting on the sea, to enjoy the spring breeze and the food typical Sorrentine who at Easter provides the classics like casatiello (salty or sweet), cakes pasqualine, cured meats and desserts like the inevitable pastiera.
After eating, walk along the famous climb stairs made famous by the film “Bread, Love and ..” with Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica will help you digest and will give way to reach the Villa Comunale entitled to master Salve D’Esposito , which offers a fantastic view and the nearby monastery of St. Francis.
In the days before Easter are processions, to be the center of attention, attracting not only the interest of the faithful, but also tourists, who are faced shows suggestive of ancient traditions. Characterized by processions of people who wear the classic “habit”, black or white, depending on the procession, processions are very charming, marked by the funeral marches of the drums.
There are numerous events around the city during these days, but be sure not to miss out on the holy processions in Sorrento! Hooded men stroll through the city singing while choruses chant the Miserere, a song evoking the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Emotion and joy fill the air, gathering people from all over the world to take part in this spectacular event. Local priests bless palms and olive trees with holy water, for everyone, and to top it all off, an exquisite lunch, made up of a variety of local dishes. What better way to spend your Easter holidays?
