What to Do and What to See in Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the very few cities in the world that can really boast something for everybody.

Just like Thai food Bangkok is a hot bed of flavors, surprises and experiences that are difficult to forget. This is one of the very few cities in the world that can really boast something for everybody. Whether you want a cultural extravaganza, a truly remarkable eating experience or a night out that never seems to end the capital of Thailand can provide it for you and give a whole lot more on top.

Let’s begin with Buddhist temples which Bangkok has in abundance. Wat Pho is probably one of the most famous Buddhist temples in the world and is home to the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. The entrance fee is extremely reasonable and the craftsmanship and architecture is exquisite. One of the best parts is the tranquil and calm atmosphere at any of the temples that is in stark contrast to the rest of the city. So when you need a bit of thinking time to reflect on what a terrific place this city really is, head to a temple and relax for a bit.

Of course one of Thailand’s greatest gifts to the world is its food and when you visit Bangkok you get to sample it in its finest form. Whether from a street vendor, a top class restaurant or somewhere in between, you are in for a real treat. So why not sample them all? Start by enjoying some noodles along the Khao San Road before venturing further into the old city for an evening meal in one of the fine and well priced restaurants. If you still haven’t had your fill, then why not try the more exclusive areas around Chinatown, where fine cuisine comes at a price?

Now you have seen some sights and have filled your stomach, so you are probably ready for some nighttime entertainment and you have definitely come to the right place. If you think that a night out in Bangkok is either sleazy or involves watching businessmen trying to sing at karaoke bars then you are in for a pleasant surprise. Bangkok is without any doubt one of the most sophisticated night spots in the world. For a bit of cabaret head to Check Inn 99 where you might be lucky enough to hear some live jazz, blues or funk. Whether it is played by the house band or another top act really won’t matter as it will be simply fantastic either way. Or you might decide to play it cool at the most fashionable venue around – The Sky Bar. This stunning spot is situated on the 63rd floor of the Dome at StateTower. It is an open air bar that offers some of the finest cocktails and vintage wines around whilst providing the best view of the city that you will ever find.
